Curriculum & Instruction

Milford Elementary Schools are adapting a new English Language Arts program this year.  Bookworms will be implemented in grades K-5.   The lessons are chunked into three 45 minute blocks.  Students will be reading trade books in our new curriculum which means they will be working on one book for a few days or more. Each lesson builds upon the rest.

This program is a standards based curriculum so students will not receive a traditional letter grade like they have in previous years. This year you will see a P for Making Progress or an N for Not Making Progress on your child’s progress reports/report cards for ELA. This will be one grade which will incorporate both Reading and Writing skills.

Attached to the Report Cards will be a list of skills taught that marking period. This will indicate which skills your child mastered, which skills they are in making progress on, or if your child is not making progress in a specific skill.
